BILL EMERSON & CLIFF WALDRON. This fine & important groupa key link in the early development of contemporary Bluegrasshas been long overdue for a re-issue, and this 16 song compilation fits the bill nicely, combining the best cuts from its 3 influential late 1960s albums with 5 previously unissued tracks. Highlighting the set of course is the original Bluegrass version of FOX ON THE RUN, plus the first recorded work of Mike Auldridge, who went on shortly afterwards to help form the SELDOM SCENE with John Duffey (who also appears on many of the cuts here). Though known particularly for their innovative material like PROUD MARY and IF I WERE A CARPENTER, Bill Emerson & Cliff Waldron were equally adept at presenting hard-core traditional Bluegrass, as you can hear from their stellar version of A LONESOME NIGHT, OUR DARLINGS GONE and others.
