Martin Premier Guitars
It can be confusing looking at all the different series that Martin produces and understanding the features that seperate each one.
Each series represents the tradition and quality that Martin is known for keeping in mind their original designs. However, as you move up the line the guitars reflect more and more the original pre-war Martins. The progression and features that make each series unique are as follows:
Standard Series - These guitars are built using Martin's traditional
features such as the dovetail neck joint and X style
bracing pattern but also with a few modern features
such as closed gear grover tuners, Sitka Spruce tops
and braces, and rosewood fingerboards and bridges on
the Mahogany guitars.
Vintage Series - This series takes a few more steps in replicating the
respected pre-war Martins. Features such as the
foward shifted scalloped bracing, modified "V" neck
profile, bone nut and saddle ( long style ), grained
ivorioid binding, vintage open geared tuners, and
genuine ebony fingerboards and bridges on all models
make the Vintage Series more attractive to purists.
Marquis Series - Yet another step back in time. The main feature that
sets this series apart is the Adirondack top and
bracing pattern where up until this series it has been
Sitka Spruce. Some other things that make this
series more like the originals are the 1 3/4" nut width
with the "V" neck profile, fossilized ivory nut and
saddle, vintage paper interior label, and Madagascar
Rosewood overlays. Do note that the rosewood
guitars in this series are still East Indian Rosewood.
Golden Era Series - This line is very similar to the Marquis Series with
a couple of minor alterations. The headplate
overlay is Brazilian Rosewood making it more
authentic and the vintage paper label is signed
by C.F.M. IV. Note that this series does not offer
a rosewood model.
Authentic Series - This is the most "authentic" of them all. We often
tell people that if you could get in a time machine
and go back to 1937 you would have this same
guitar. Everything about this one is exactly like
pre-war Martins from the Hyde glue wood joints
and steel T bar neck reinforcement to the exact
tonewoods and even the neck profile itself. The
woods used in this guitar are the same woods used
as they were in 1937 (including Brazilian Rosewood
on the D-28 Model) and even the
case has been reproduced to make this series
everything that even the most die hard purist would
look for.
