Tennessee Mandolins

Crafters of Tennessee is now showcasing the “Prodigal 5” Tennessee Mandolin, the reproduction of the only known authentic “Griffith” A5 mandolin, built by renowned luthier, Lloyd Loar in 1923. Ever since Marks’ father, legendary musician Tut Taylor acquired this instrument in the early 1960’s for his personal collection; Mark has toyed with the idea of reproducing it.

Mr. Taylor, along with his master luthiers will hand build 100 replicas of this historic instrument with either a hand varnished finish, or a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The price will reflect the use of the different finishes.

Coinciding with the historic release of the “Prodigal 5”, Crafters of Tennessee will re-release its celebrated TN5 line of mandolins. Only a handful of these instruments have been produced since the early 1980’s.
