The first Southern Jumbo was made in 1942 as a promotional model for Gibson's popular J-45 model. This model was received so well by musicians that it soon became a permanent member of the Gibson Guitar line, along with the J-45, J-50, and J-55. Essentially, the Southern Jumbo is a more ornate & refined version of the J-45. Country music icon, Hank Williams, Sr. also helped to popularize the Southern Jumbo and to further the establishment of this outstanding guitar as a definitive classic Gibson acoustic.
The Southern Jumbo is a member of the Gibson Modern Classic Series, and includes the L R Baggs under the saddle Pickup, factory installed.
