In the late 1970s, the Gold Star banjo was introduced by Saga Musical Instruments, replicating, and in some cases
improving on features of those Pre-War originals. The alloy composition of the single piece flange and tension hoop
was upgraded to remove impurities and eliminate metal fatigue (the vintage 20-hole flathead tone ring is carefully
fitted to a 3-ply rock maple rim). Add to the mix a single-piece, die-cast flange of proper dimension and the result
is that elusive "Pre-Ware" sound.
In the 80s and 90s the Gold Star banjos became collector's banjos for the current crop of pickers, being one of only
two brands of five string banjo that have consistently increased in value after purchase.
