Phillip Mann was a true pioneer for bluegrass musicians in the early days of the
internet and an excellent bluegrass banjo and Reso® player who was dedicated to
bluegrass music by playing it, promoting it, and preserving this music in every way...
He founded www.bluegrassbanjo.org and started one of the very first web sites to offer
FREE Tablature arrangements for banjo players. This site is still ongoing, and banjo players
are welcome to contribute any tablature that they, too, may want to share online.
Phil not only included videos on his own site, but also created a You Tube site,
phil2mann, when video became feasible to share online. He also was instrumental in
the creation and overall maintenance of the web site for Janet Davis Music Company,
which he helped to establish on the internet in 1996. To the day we lost him, on January 23, 2009,
Phil has been a dedicated friend to the entire bluegrass community worldwide.
If you visit his site, one thing you may notice is that Phil, above all, was a very loyal American citizen.
Phil Mann served in the US NAVY, and continually referred to all people serving in the US Military Branches as heroes who should receive the highest priority and respect at all times.
His love of animals, his love of bluegrass and the bluegrass instruments, and his wonderful sense of humor are evident in all he has accomplished.
In lieu of flowers: The family has requested a donation be sent to The Bluegrass Trust Fund, which is an emergency fund for bluegrass musicians who do not have insurance or who need assistance for any type of serious emergency, (i.e. for health, a house burning down.) This fund is a non-profit charitable fund which is managed by I.B.M.A. International Bluegrass Music Association, which is a not for profit organization dedicated to Bluegrass Music. Your donation will go toward a wonderful cause.
(Anyone can send a donation to this fund. The sole purpose of this fund is to help bluegrass musicians in need.) If your donation is sent in the name of Phillip Mann, his family will receive acknowledgement.
Also, your donation is tax deductible.
